OVERVIEW

A full interior renovation of a 1920s bungalow for a young family of four. The brief was to preserve the home's heritage character while opening the floor plan for modern family living.

02 / Challenge
]
The existing space was a generic open-plan office with fluorescent lighting, grey carpet tiles, and zero personality. The firm needed a workspace that reflected the quality of their own architectural output.
Acoustically, the space was a disaster. The concrete ceiling and hard surfaces meant phone calls bled across the entire floor. Focused work was nearly impossible, and client meetings required booking external venues because the office felt unprofessional.

03 / APPROACH
]
We exposed the original concrete ceiling and brick walls, then layered in warm interventions: birch plywood workstations, felt acoustic panels in earthy tones, and a central materials library built from blackened steel shelving. A client lounge with a fireplace anchors the entry.
Acoustic zones were created through ceiling baffles, floor-level planters, and a glazed meeting room with operable walls that can open into the main studio for all-hands gatherings. The lighting system alternates between task-focused and ambient modes depending on the time of day.

04 / Result
]
Staff satisfaction surveys showed a 40% improvement in workplace comfort. The studio has since been used as a venue for client presentations and industry events, generating additional revenue for the firm.
The materials library has become a talking point with visiting clients and a practical resource for the design team. Three firms in the same building have since approached the studio about redesigning their own offices, citing the Arch Studio space as direct inspiration.
