OVERVIEW

A full interior renovation of a 1920s bungalow for a young family of four. The brief was to preserve the home's heritage character while opening the floor plan for modern family living.

02 / Challenge
]
The existing interior was a developer-spec finish with no personality. Generic stone floors, recessed lighting everywhere, and an open plan that felt more like a showroom than a home.
Despite the panoramic Hyde Park views, the layout actually turned its back on the windows. The primary bedroom faced an internal courtyard, and the living area was arranged around a television rather than the cityscape. The client wanted a complete reset.

03 / APPROACH
]
We introduced zoning through material shifts rather than walls. The living area flows from honed Pietra Grey marble into engineered walnut in the private quarters. Bespoke bronze screens provide separation without blocking the panoramic views. All furniture was custom-designed for the space.
The primary suite was relocated to the park-facing corner with a freestanding bathtub positioned at the window. We commissioned three site-specific artworks from London-based sculptor Mei Lin and designed a 12-seat dining table in smoked oak and brushed brass that anchors the entertaining zone.

The client moved in within a week of completion and hosted their first dinner for twelve that same weekend. The penthouse was subsequently featured in Architectural Digest UK.
What surprised the client most was how the apartment changes throughout the day. Morning light warms the marble in the living area, afternoon sun catches the bronze screens, and at night the city lights become the backdrop. It finally feels like a home rather than a developer showpiece.
